Policy and Public Affairs Intern

Housing Justice is the national, ecumenical voice of churches on housing need and homelessness. We believe that human dignity is challenged by the lack of access to a home that truly meets your needs. Over the years, we’ve affected huge change at a national policy level, influencing legislation, changing church approaches to homelessness and highlighting issues of housing injustice. But there’s never been more of a need for our work than now.

As our Policy and Public Affairs intern you will play a central role in shaping our work influencing policy makers, policy shapers and spiritual leaders. You will report directly to the CEO but work closely with the Directors on delivering the Housing Justice Influencing strategy. Your role will see you liaise with parliamentarians in both House of Parliament, regional leaders and leaders in local government. You will gain knowledge of decision making processes in various Christian denominations, prepare Housing Justice spokespeople for high profile media appearances and further your knowledge on policy issues such as housing and homelessness, planning, migration and welfare.

This role will suit someone with a keen interest in housing and homelessness and/or related issues. A knowledge or experience of parliament and/or the governance of various Christian denominations would be a beneficial but is not essential.

Strong analytical skills and the ability to dissect and digest complex information and figures are essential as are strong written skills and strong general communication skills.
