Housing Justice is looking for a talented person with experience of working with winter night shelters to join our ground-breaking Equipping Shelters London project, the biggest investment in community night shelters in the capital's history. Could that person be you?

Who we are

Housing Justice is a Christian ethos charity, motivated to take action on housing injustice by our belief that every person needs a home to be able to flourish and fulfil their potential. Our vision is of a society where everyone has access to a home that truly meets their needs – and today, the work we do is needed more than ever. As the homelessness crisis continues, we are growing our team to be able to respond.

The way we respond to the homelessness crisis is to work with church and community groups to address rough sleeping and wider homelessness in their local area. These projects offer something different and complimentary to statutory or commissioned services in supporting people experiencing homelessness.  Through the sum total of these often small, grassroots projects, we believe a powerful movement for change occurs across our society.

For more than 60 years we've been doing this work and today our expertise and quality services are being increasingly recognised by government, local authorities, grassroots projects and the public.

But while homelessness exists there is more for us to do - that's why we need an experienced and committed winter night shelter expert to join our London team.

Could that be you? Are you the standout candidate we’re looking for?

As a Catalyst Worker you will report to the Catalyst Team Leader and you will be central to an ambitious project to support grassroots, often faith led night shelters in London to support people experiencing homelessness find sustainable routes off the street. You will help to set up new projects, expand existing ones and increase the opportunities for those experiencing homelessness to reach a more settled housing situation. To aid this work you will work with the team to encourage applications to our fund for night shelter projects, support grant funded projects and enable projects to demonstrate their impact.

We are looking for someone who is used to operating in or with church and community night shelters, you will also have experience of homelessness and housing legislation and working with people with multiple and complex needs. You will be full of ideas on how to make a difference in grassroots projects and willing to work with organisations of all faith and none to bridge the gap between commissioned and non-commissioned services. You’ll have strong knowledge of Microsoft Office, data recording systems and strong administration skills.

The role is office based in lively Bermondsey, but you can expect flexibility around working hours and location.  The role is full time (35 hours per week), but when these hours are worked is negotiable. We offer a wide range of benefits, including 25 days of annual leave, flexible working to fit in with family responsibilities, childcare vouchers, and pension.
