MegaBite

MegaBite is an innovative way of helping people in need on the street.

Donors can buy Meal Squares (a paper ticket that a homeless person can exchange for a meal and a soft drink) from a local Megabite project or by mail order and pass them to a homeless person. The homeless person can then use them to purchase meals and soft drinks from agreed food outlets. The food outlet sends the used Meal Squares back to the local MegaBite project and is reimbursed.

Running a MegaBite group

MegaBite is run locally by independent groups around the country.

Any group of people can get together and start up a MegaBite project. The group should probably comprise at least three people. Sometimes the group might already be some type of homeless agency, such as a day centre, but MegaBite can equally be run by a team of enthusiastic people who are new to the field of homelessness, for example a church group.

Once MegaBite is up and running it will only take around an hour a week to administer.

If you are interested in running a MegaBite scheme we will send you an information pack which includes details of carrying out some research in your local area to find out if MegaBite would be appropriate. Subject to this, we will then send you a one-year agreement to sign, followed by the MegaBite operating manual.

Local projects are evaluated on a yearly basis so that we can continually improve and update our operating procedures.
