Centrepoint Outreach
Boston
Between Friday 23rd to Sunday 25th January, 2004 staff and volunteers of Centrepoint Outreach put on displays in both Somerfield and ASDA Supermarkets, Boston to highlight Homelessness. On the Saturday night prior to Homelessness Sunday, Centrepoint's Chief Executive John Marshall together with Julie Green from ASDA and members of the local volunteer Police cadets, gave out free soup & roll to both 'rough sleepers' and anyone passing by in Boston's pedestrian precinct ( last year Centrepoint staff and House residents did a sponsored sleep out in the same doorway of Burton's Shop) .  ‘It was a cold and frosty night' commented John Marshall, ‘and we were only out from 8.00 pm to midnight. Just imagine being out all night in a cold squat or on the street!'  At Holy Trinity Church, the following morning, John was the guest speaker on the subject of Homelessness and also included the plight of migrant workers. Relating to the Homelessness Sunday readings and the story of the Good Samaritan, John asked people not to give money to those who were begging in the town. ‘Please don't feel guilty about not give them money. It is a sobering thought that you may be providing their final drug fix! In the story of the Good Samaritan, he did not give cash to the person in need but ensured that someone in need was taken care of by those who were able to help. By referring people to us and supporting Centrepoint Outreach with both prayer and practical support, we can and do help those in need, on your behalf.' As well raising awareness about homelessness issues, our weekend collections raised £560 for Centrepoint Outreach funds.
