Guide Neighbourhoods are successful community organisations who have tackled issues such as crime, poor housing and unemployment in their community. It is generally recognised that residents living and working in their neighbourhood 24 hours a day, seven days a week are the key to creating sustainable communities and quality public services. The Guide Neighbourhoods programme offers step by step support for existing and future resident leaders and is co-ordinated by Housing Justice Regenerate.

The Guide Neighbourhoods programme is funded by the Communities and Local Government department's Community Empowerment Division as part of the Together We Can Action Plan to pass on the lessons they have learnt to other community groups who want to tackle similar issues.

If you are leading a new or potential project in your own community you can:

Visit a guide neighbourhood to find out what they have done and how they did it
Develop a long term relationship with your Guide Neighbourhood who can offer on-going advice to help you on your first steps to improve the quality of life in your community
Once you are working with a Guide Neighbourhood you may be able to apply for a small grant to kick start or accelerate the work in your neighbourhood

Help is available to cover the costs of taking part in the Guide Neighbourhood programme, for example travel costs for a visit if you can't cover this yourself.
