What we do

Housing Justice works for a decent affordable home for everyone.
Housing Justice helps people in immediate housing need while mobilising support locally and nationally to improve housing policy. This page sets out our main areas of activity - to find out more click on the different headings to be taken to the relevant section of the website.

Housing Justice UNLEASH
UNLEASH (also known as Church Action on Homelessness in London) merged with Housing Justice to form Housing Justice UNLEASH in January 2006. Housing Justice UNLEASH acts as an umbrella membership organisation for churches, projects and individuals involved in homeless action in London. We provide a network for people to plug into and a forum where projects can share information, discuss concerns, find resources and develop good practice.

Housing Justice Regenerate
Funded by the government Regenerate enables residents to take the lead in renewing their own estates

Policy and campaigns
Housing Justice takes an active role in campaigning for changes in housing policy, responding to government consultations on housing legislation and raising awareness of housing issues among the churches and wider population.

Megabite
MegaBite Meal Squares improve the health and nutrition of people on the street

Just Housing account
The Just Housing savings account is a bank deposit account for people who want to help combat housing need and poverty in the UK. It’s a secure, flexible way to save or invest, offering a competitive return for your savings and the money will be used by Triodos Bank to finance housing projects across the UK.

Homelessness Sunday
Homelessness Sunday is celebrated by more than 2,000 churches across the United Kingdom each year. Housing Justice works in partnership with Scottish Churches Housing Action to promote Homelessness Sunday, held on the last Sunday in January each year. The next Homelessness Sunday will be held on Sunday 27 January 2008.

Publications
We regularly produce newsletters, annual reports, occasional briefings and other publications

Housing Justice Digest
Housing Justice Digest, formerly known as Rachel's Digest, is a highly regarded digest of news about housing, homelessness and social policy. This is sent out weekly by email, monthly in paper form or can be provided in html format for publication on an intranet.

Julie’s husband left her and their 18 month old daughter. Housing Benefit did not cover the cost of her rented accommodation. She tried living with her mother but her mother’s boyfriend turned out to be violent. The local council ruled that she had made herself intentionally homeless. Distraught, she approached our Oswestry centre. We were able to offer her a deposit and rent in advance and within a week Julie had a home of her own again.
